What is Celiac Disease?
According to celiac.ca, “...It is a permanent intolerance to gluten, a protein found in wheat (e.g., durum, kamut, spelt), rye, barley, and triticale.
Gluten consumption causes damage to the absorptive surface of the small intestine and can result in malnutrition, anemia, nutritional deficiencies and an increased risk of other autoimmune diseases and some cancers of the gut.”
Why does it involve a gluten free diet?
Simply put, it is the only way to eliminate gluten free from your life. Without gluten in your body, your system can start to heal itself.
What are the symptoms?
Symptoms associated with (also according to celiac.ca) “can vary from person to person.” If left untreated, this condition can pretty much destroy the intestinal tract, making it very difficult to digest anything, and painful to boot. “The similarities of symptoms of celiac…to other conditions often leads to a misdiagnosis of irritable bowel syndrome, lactose, intolerance, chronic fatigue and many other conditions”(celiac.ca).
A brief list of symptoms appears below:
Indigestion and nausea
Abdominal bloating, pain,cramping and gas
Lactose intolerance
Anemia-iron, folate or B12 deficiency
Extreme weakness or fatigue
Migraine
Bone/joint pain
Swelling of ankles and hands

It is important that if you suspect having it, get diagnosed.
Don't stop until you get a diagnosis.
It can mean your health and possibly your life.
